Environment Illinois Research & Education Center Staff
Max oversees Environment Illinois Research & Education Center's program work while directing its Clean Water and Environmental Health Programs. Max led Environment Illinois Research & Education Center’s successful campaigns to win a 90 percent reduction in mercury pollution from Illinois’s coal-fired power plants and to stop BP’s expansion of toxic dumping in Lake Michigan.
His current campaigns include: reducing water pollution from factory farms, restoring rollbacks of the Clean Water Act, cutting stormwater and sewage pollution, and eliminating the use of toxic industrial chemicals that accumulate in the Great Lakes or endanger human health and the environment.
As Environment Illinois Research & Education Center’s Open Space advocate, Max campaigned for protections and funding for Illinois parks and natural areas. Prior to joining Environment Illinois Research & Education Center’s staff, Max served as a policy aide in the Oregon House of Representatives. Max is a graduate of Iowa’s Grinnell College.
